I have a 1993 Honda Accord LX, when I push the air recirculate button, it only makes a buzzing sound. I've looked underneath the dash on the passenger side and have been able to identify the general area of the problem but can't identify parts or problem. The blower motor and the door in front of it are operational, however directly across from it is another fan of some sort with a door, the door is not moving and the buzzing is coming from that unit. What is this unit, how is it attached to the recirculate and what could possibly cause it to be stuck or cause to be buzzing? local honda dealer said they had no clue and it could cost upwards of 1000 to take the dash off and figure it out. have been sitting on ths for a while can't find any help on the net, thanks for your help!

Sounds like you have found the issue.

There is a motor that moves a door for the inside/outside air. I'd pull the motor and work the linkage on the door by hand to be sure it moves without much resistance. Then test the motor.

 

do I have to remove the whole dash to get to it? or can just pull the glovebox and aiirbag out?

 

this door/motor sits as far rght as anything can get in the car

 

I think - never done this on a 4th gen - once the glove box is out you will be able to it....again, it worked this way on one of my older ones but don't know on the 4th gen.

 

The motor is on the passenger side outside end of the blower motor housing. Manual does not address replacement. It may not be accessible w/o removing the blower motor housing. I've done this job on 90 Accord which should be same as your 93 Accord.

Download a manual and look at blower replacement to get the procedure. Check Online Manuals posts in DIY forum.

One tip was to rotate the blower housing, top of housing to front of car as I remembe to gain clearance to pull the housing out. Reverse for installation.

These motors may be repairable. On other motors dirt/grease causes the wiper contacts to loose electrical contact. Cleaning can repair.
