I heed help im about to go crazy with this car i have a 98 honda accord 4 cyl dx and it will not pass emission to save its life i need a engine cooalant temp sensor and code p0118 i went to auto zone and bought a "engine coolant temp sensor " but that didnt fix the problem my check engine light is still on and car still cuts off and runs rough ok the dude who trying to fix my car took a pic of it and i took it back to autozone and now they say its a fan switch ok so i got that piece and the same thing check engine light stll on and car still cutting off i need help i dont know what else to do help me please!!!! Someone please
P0118 = ECT sensor circuit high voltage.
Since the new sensor didn't fix it, I'd check out the wiring for the sensor. I wouldn't go to the fan switch at all for this error code.
So which sensor did you actually replace?? There's 3 of em.
The true "ECT sensor" is in the head below the distributor. It has a 2-wire plug.
The coolant sensor nearby with a 1-wire plug is for the dashboard temperature gauge. It doesn't give ANY information to the engine controller at all.
The 2-wire "sensor" at the thermostat housing is just a fan switch.

thats where im confused because when i had someone look at my car for the coolant temp sensor they told me to just go to auto zone and get a coolant temp sensor and so the first time i got one it was a coolant temp sensor put that on check engine light stll on so went back and got a fan switch thats still not right so i dont really know what part i need i just know my car cuts off here and there and will not start unless my check engine light is on and it runs rough and will not pass emission im sorry i dont know the right answer im confused

Attached is a pic of the location of the ECT sensor. Check the wiring (Red/Yel wire and the Grn/Blk wire) and connector there. Also check the Grn/Blk wire at the junction connection C103 (pic. also attached).
