P1149 DTC
I have a 2000 Honda Accord L4 2.3L ULEV engine w/5 speed tranny. 105k miles. Check Engine light came on about three weeks ago and I took vehicle to Autozone andpulled a P1149 DTC.Autozone sales clerksaid the issue was a pre-catalytic convertor O2 sensorissue. I bought a new one and went to install it, but the wires were too short and it didn't look identical. So, I re-installed the old one and reset the fuse per my Haynes manual. Light stayed out until about a week ago. Finally got back to Autozone and pulled a lone P1149 DTC again. I said"O2 sensor issue?" to the salesman and he said "No, you need to have the car checked out on diagonostic machine sinceAutozone doesn't have any information about the P1149 DTC". I couldn't remember what code I had the first time so, I went home and Googled the trouble code and found it was either an O2 sensor issue or an air/fuelratio sensor range/performance problem depending on which website I was on. Also found out that Honda has released a Technical Service Bulletin 01-031 which states that the ECM must be replaced. Another website stated that the ECM replacement should be done by Hondasince the keys won't work after replacing it, if you don't. Has anyonehad this work done? I don't want to spend $$$$, if it doesn't help. I just found the original AutoZone DTC trouble shooting info and it doesn't mention anything about the ECM. Will just replacing the O2 sensor do the trick or am I screwed? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

RE: P1149 DTC
Jim,
I Googled P1149 and went through several hits and found a couple that referenced Technical Service Bulletin 01-031 that states ECM replacement is suggested. I was going to just replace the O2 sensor but don't want to do that and find that the ECM needs to be replaced anyway. I was hoping somebody may have experienced this already and found that replacing the O2 Sensor fixed it.
Thanks for responding.

RE: P1149 DTC
My book says that code is only for the ULEV engine. There's different codes forsimilar problems in the non-ULEV engine. Probably the ULEV engine has more of a proportional signal vs. the other engine. So the P0131 132 133 codes don't apply.
Probably most of us non-California guys don't have ULEV engines.

RE: P1149 DTC
I don't know if the ULEV was Calif ONLY or simply more rare elsewhere.
Reset the ECU& see if it comes back. I suppose you've already done that.
If it's intermittent, maybe it'll come back after awhile. Check for loose/dirty/corroded connections at the sensor plug. Also at connector C102 beneath the under-hood fuse box. The primaryO2 sensor also hasa relay for it's heater power, check that. I don't have the ULEV engine, so I'm a little hazy on exact locations of that stuff.
This stuff is also located at the followingterminals on the ECU:
B16 & B19
C13, C14, & C15
