P1259
Hi everyone, My CEL recently illuminated and I plugged in my scanner. I went into the PERMANENT codes and this came up. What actually made me plug in my scanner was that : I drove my car and @4k RPM in every gear it wouldnt go past it and it would studder. It would go away when I would shift into the next gear, till it would each 4k again and so on.
This is what the scanner shows.
P1259 1. VTEC System B1 Failure. 2. VTEC System Failure.
22-04 Honda/Acure PERMANENT
1. Shift solenoid valve C (OPEN)
2. Shift solenoid valve C HIGH INPUT
3. VTEC System Failure
4.VTEC System B2 Failure
The light is still on but I don't have the problem of it not wanting to go past 4k rpm. That problem only happened in one driving cycle. I know I have plenty of gear oil. And I put in some extra motor oil yesterday just in case. But I don't have any leaks.
Can someone please help me out with this? Is it as easy as changing out a part?
I'm great at changing out parts but I suck at diagnosing. LOL
***I forgot to add that my clutch may be going bad! I was doing my homework on this issue looking up older posts and I saw posts from previous members saying that if the rpm needle goes up without the speedometer needle then the clutch is starting to go out. That's no worries because my clutch kit is on its way!
But now I need to figure out this code!

Check the engine oil level. Be sure it is at the proper level. Most of the time the P1259 is set when the engine oil level is low, resulting in low pressure to the vtec.

Something strange here, only solenoid in the vtec system is the vtec solenoid valve. The shift solenoid valve does not interact w/ the vtec system to my knowledge.
check vtec solenoid for resistance (14-30 ohms) or apply 12V to see if solenoid clicks. If no sound, it's open. The vtec solenoid drive wire is a single wire connector and get's lots of abuse as the distributor connector is removed. I had vtec solenoid wire part at the connector and wound up using a crimp connector to splice to wiring harness.
The other electrical component is the vtec pressure switch. It should be closed w/ engine off and open w/ engine running.
good luck

Like Poorman212 stated, for P1259 the first thing to do is check for low oil level.
Here is some more info. on diagnostic, although some of the steps are specific to using Honda diagnostic equipment and software.
You can do the resistance testing (e.g., ohms measurements) easily with a multimeter.
