Default CEL P1259 - VTEC Malfunction

Hi Everyone,

My CEL came on the other day and I immediately had hit checked and i got a P1259 - VTEC Malfunction. I checked the oil level and it was low so I did a full oil changed but after about 3 or four driving cycles, the CEL is still on. Should I reset it and see if it comes back on or will if go off if everything is working properly?

Thanks.

Tard, it doesn't matter what car it is.

Check the filter on the VTEC solenoid. Reset the CEL and see if it comes back.

p1259 is usually set from low engine oil. so yeah, reset it and keep an eye on the engine oil level.

Thanks for the helpful ones that posted. I was driving into work this morning and the CEL went off so I feel better now that it went off by itself.

BTW...my car is a 1998 Accord EX Sedan.

Occasionally it's set off by a clogged screen at the VTEC spool valve. Spool valve assemblyis #11 here, but it's actually installed more towards the other side, near the throttle body. The screen is part of thegasket#13, so just replace that.

... unless you have a V-6 engine, which would be completely different.
