picked up the 97 honda,not starting
i finally picked up my friends honda and towed it to my garage,the battery was dead so i took it to autozone so they could charge it,now the lights light up and everything works but its not cranking its just has a tick sound when i try to start it,also the alarm is constantly on the indicators stay blinking when i hook the battery up im thinking maybe a alarm issue causing it not to start,any suggestions? its an xpos alarm and theres a lot of weird wiring by the drivers foot rest
A car alarm can cause you to have some headaches when trying to figure out a no-start. Try to find the control unit and see if there is some kind of reset button on the alarm's control unit. You may want to google the alarm model to find an user guide for it.
everything electrical works but then when i turn the key to start the dash lights dim and one click sound,also when i turn the key it says its in gear d4 on the cluster then goes to p,i was looking online and it said to check the codes on the obd if its in d4,could it be the starter?
If you're getting a click from the starter, there are two possibilties;
First possibility is the battery connections are dirty/corroded and insufficient voltage/current is being transmitted to engage the starter solenoid. Clean the battery connections and make sure they are tight.
Next possibility is a failing starter solenoid w/ worn out contacts. Some can be repaired. Try hammering the starter w/ repeated on/off/on/off,... to see if starter will engage. Hammer trick will also work sometimes to cause th contacts to slightly reposition and make a good connection to drive the starter. Fix is to repair the contacts or replace the starter.
good luck
