Unhappy Please Help: Temp Gauge is not showing the correct reading

Hi All,

My Car Details:

1999 Honda Accord EX, 4 Cyl, 101300 Miles

Problem:

Yesterday morning I observed Temp Gauge in the dash board was showing High, I checked the radiator fans both ware running when I turned on the AC. after 4 to 5 Hours I drove the car about 6 miles and Temp Gauge was normal, when I turned on the Heater on the car ( Heater is working Fine) it again moved to High.
Today I took my car to local Mechanic and he said every thing is good and he replaced the Temp sensor which is connected to the engine and he even after changing Temp Gauge is showing high but he said he verified the engine temperate with temperature gun there is no over heat and also the Gauge pointer is falling down to Cold 'C' when we tap on top of dashboard. while my car is on when ever I tap on the dashboard Temp Gauge is fluctuating from C to 3/4th.

I am not sure what is the exact issue is, Can I use car the for 50 mile commute? He there any other thing I can check for.

Please replay if you have any suggestions.

Thank You in advance

Since it is not overheating, the temperature sender has been replaced, and the gauge moves from tap on top of the dashboard; then it may be a loose connector, wiring, or just a faulty gauge. The temperature gauge retails for $94.65 from Honda and around $68 plus shipping from an internet Honda dealer. Honda part number 78130-S84-A21.

You can try to get a used gauge from a salvage/junk yard or through ebay. The part is separately replaceable, see attached picture.

This link has instructions on removing the instrument panel. You do not need to follow every procedure in the link, since you are not replacing the bulbs.
