Default Help my 1997 Honda Accord is overheating!

It started over heating the other day and I pulled over and called road rangers they said let it cool. Once cool I made it to work at work we found that the resivior cap (well the elbow going into the cap is broken so water could leave but not get back into the radiator. I replaced it but now 2 days later its over heating again. No fluids have been leaking... Whats going on?

Did you refill the radiator with a 50/50 mix of coolant and water after the overheating? With the car sufficiently cooled down, open the radiator and check the fluid level and refill as necessary.

If a lot of coolant is missing, after refilling you may have to purge some air out of the cooling system; do this by turning the heater to max and run the car with the radiator cap off and refill as necessary as air comes out. You might have to gently rev to car a little to help open the thermostat faster for it to purge all the air out. -- You can skip the purging if refilling the coolant doesn't cause anymore overheating problems.

Also, check that the radiator fan is turning on. With the hood opened, the radiator fan is on the passenger side, the A/C condenser fan is on the driver's side. Turn on you A/C and see if both fans come on. Report back, there are other test we can direct you to do if both fans don't come on.

Thank you for your help! Turns out the Sears guy says the radiator cap was not functioning properly the spring was sticking. We will see.
