Default Power Antenna Problem

I have a 95 Accord wagon. Recently the power antenna will not go down when the radio is turned off. I hear the motor working but nothing happens. Do I need to replace the whole thing or just the antenna itself. Thanks

Usually, the antenna strip rack gear has worn and the worn gear that drives it jumps the gear lugs. Sometimes a new strip will not fix the problem.

There is a DIY on fixing the antenna, but link is no good (web site problems I think).

Your options boil down to repair, replace w/ new aftermarket power antenna,or replace the antenna w/ a whip stub. I did this last option, last year rather than install a new strip or power antenna. The replacement cost for aftermarket power antenna assy is roughly same as new Honda antenna strip and you don't have to worry that a new strip won't fix the problem. I installed a black, flexible whip antenna to replace the power antenna. It does not provide reception as good as the power antenna, but OK for FM radio.

good luck

Hondadude posted a fix for the power antenna motor. Basically you take apart the motor case and clean the accumulated dirt off of the gears. There is also a pin in there that can get worn down and you just rotate it so the round part guides the plastic part of the mast properly.

You antenna mast my have broken as well. Just get on off ebay for ~$!0.
