Default Power keeps shutting off for a second randomly

I was driving to my bank this morning and while i was driving the electrics just shut off for a second randomly throughout the trip and when i was in my neighborhood on the way home i accidentally flashed my headlights and the car shutoff. I tried starting it but nothing happened, i tried taking the key out and putting it back in to start and again nothing happened until a minute later i started the car and went home. Could this be caused by my battery or is the alternator not charging it? I have a 98 accord LX automatic, i will check the terminals and clean them.

Just a guess, I would try the ignition switch. Does it act up if you wiggle the keys?

I am having a very similar problem. I went to ahm-ownerlink.com and it says the recall on my ignition switch has been fixed but the ign interlock wasnt. When I turn the car on and move the key around everything runs fine.

I will have to see if i can do the recall i figured it was ignition related or the negative terminal on my battery was loose. Thank you all very much for the speedy response. The recall date was may 16, 2002 would they still cover it if i do it now?

Yes, both recalls should still be covered. The interlock recall is just to prevent you from taking the key out of the ignition with the car in gear. It doesn't cause any problems with drivability.

Rotate the key towards the off position very very slowly. If you barely have to move the key before the car is turned off then it is likely your problem.
