Power Steering Pump - 97 Accord

Power Steering Pump - 97 Accord
My power steering pump is leaking a little on my 97 accord LX 4 cyl with 126k miles. A tech quoted me about $150 to re-seal the current pump. My question is, how hard is it to re-seal the power steering pump? I am somewhat mechanical and I do most of my repairs. However, I would not take on the task of say changing my timing belt. I assume you have to remove the pump to re-seal it. Also, is it better to re-seal or replace? Thanks for any help!!

They have to come apart from the back to replace the seal; so yes it needs to be removed and taken to a bench, nothing really tricky about it, left hand threads on the pulley nut, and take careful note of the direction of the seal; because it seems backwards from what you'd think.
Seal P/N 91249-PY3-003 approx $5.50

Thanks for the info. I have a few more questions. How does the seal come out? Do you have to use a seal puller to drive it out? Also, how does the belt come off because it looks like a pain to get off? Thanks!

RE: Power Steering Pump - 97 Accord
remove the 2-10mm bolts holding the high side hose on, then hang the hose from the hood with a bungee cord, clamp off the return hose going to the reservoir and remove it.
Then loosen the top pivot bolt of the P/S pump and a 12mm nut under it; then you look from the front and see a 10mm long bolt that tensions the pump. The upper bolt and lower nut will be removed, after the belt is off.
Be sure to use Honda P/S fluid when refilling forthe lost fluid.
When you have the pump unit apart, the shaft will be out of the way and you can drive the seal out the back.
Reinstall the new seal using a socket that catches on the outeredge of the seal.
