Priority of '90 Accord repairs on a budget

Hi,
I bought my 1990 Accord in 2000, with 60,000 miles, and had the timing belt replaced. Since 2000, I have driven it 76,000 miles, so it's at 136,000. I estimate 60% of the miles are city and 40% are highway. I'm in the northeast and the car is always parked outside, so it's subject to rain, snow, sleet, etc.
My car just passed inspection but the mechanic suggested a number of repairs, including replacing the timing belt and water pump. The belt is 9 years old and has done 76,000 miles, and the replacement schedule calls for it to be replaced at 90,000 miles or six years. I would rather not pay for the repair, as I am currently unemployed. I have read other posts about timing belt replacements. If anyone has any recommendations about whether the age or mileage is more significant, and whether or not I should make the repair, please let me know. I am aware of the damage a broken belt can do, and may end up getting the repair for peace of mind's sake.
The other suggested replacements were the left front axle, transmission service, and throttle body service. Of these, the most important seems to be the axle, which is making a lot of noise, and the mechanic said though it passed inspection, it may break. Any recommendations about how essential these services are would be greatly appreciated. Like I said, paying for these things is something I would like to avoid if possible, especially because with any luck, a new job could make a newer car possible within the next year.
