Rear Brakes Knock while Braking
Hello! First-time-poster here.
I have a 2005 DX sedan.
I was wondering if anybody might have an opinion on what may be causing a knocking noise in my rear braking system while it is engaged. Basically, every time I apply the brakes, I hear a ticking/knocking noise coming from one or both (I am unsure which) of the rear two wheels. The faster I am moving, the faster the knocking noise is. It does not happen every time I brake - maybe 70% of the time. Also, it only occurs before the brakes are fully engaged, usually traveling between 30 and 10 miles an hour as I slow down. The noise does occur every single time I slow down using the e-brake exclusively (just to troubleshoot). The noise seems to increase in frequency and volume when it is colder outside.
Yesterday, I replaced both rear drums and all 4 shoes, only to continue hearing the same noise! Two shops I have taken it to have simply told me they couldn't find any issues and to "bring it back if it gets worse." Quite frustrating.
Any ideas? Thanks!

My father's car made a knocking sound when the wheel cylinder was leaking. The fluid on the shoes made the shoes stick, then quickly slip as he applied and released the brakes. If there is brake fluid on the drum or shoes, it could be making the brake shoes jump around the drum. Make sure everything is clean using brake cleaner.
