07 Accord SE. Only 29000 miles and the dealer said that I need brakes all around. I haven't pulled the wheels to have a look yet but from what I have been reading it is not uncommon to have to replace the brakes on the Accord at this mileage. Most other cars I have owned have gone about 40K+ before needing them. I am experienced with brakes and have always done my own brake jobs over the last 30 years. I can only recall one brake job that I did with a friend of mine that had the calipers that had to be rotated back in. I recall using a pair of needle nose pliers and it worked fine without a special tool. Do I just rotate the piston clockwise all the way in or do I have to line up the cross on the caliper face in any special way with the piston face? Thanks

 

there is a very cheap tool you can buy at autozone, that has a thin shaped brake pad looking peice with a bolt down the center to compress the caliper back in.

very simple.

 

For the rear disc brake, you rotate the piston until it is almost flush with the caliper body, it doesn't need to be exact as all you are trying to do is allow the caliper to fit back over the rotor with the new brake pads which would be thicker than the worn ones. You do want to rotate the piston to align the grooves looking like a "+" with the caliper body, so that the grooves aligns with the tab on the brake pad.

Most Honda rear disc pistons are rotated instead of compressing them.

 

You should align the slot so it is vertical to align a dimple on the back of the brake pad.
