Default rear drum brakes

I replaced my rear brake shoes a week ago. it was a pain of course, but I had some problems with reassembly. I got everything back together with the new shoes, and the drums did not want to slide back on, I had to back the star adjuster wheel all the way down to get both on. Now, my parking brake has hardly any resistance and its not stopping as well as it should with new rear brakes. do I need to take the back dust cover off and spin the star wheel back to where it starts clicking again for the rears to self adjust??

you want to adjust to the point of resistance, the drum spinning against the shoes.
is your pedal spongy?
if you cant spin the drum its to tight, if you can spin it with the wheel on and it keeps spinning its too loose.
a lil too tight will give you a great pedal and wear in, too tight and youll lock the rear wheels with minimal apply (not cool when youre picking up your date)
its all feel, and the difference between a great brake job and a finished brake job.
youre almost there. have fun tomorrow.

the pedal isn't "spongy" it just seems to feel like it is catching in a different spot than what Im used to.

Yes.

If you didn't change or turn the drums I bet there is a "lip" on them. You had to have the shoes all the way in to get inside the lip.

that might be because the drums are still smooth, but they were next to impossible to get back on.

Search for v=sTpKpkxJjLQ on YouTube. This is an ericthecarguy video on installing rear drum brakes on a honda. He shows the adjustment at the end of the video.
