Seat Belt Warranty

Seat Belt Warranty
I learned from the Honda dealer the other day that seat belts are warrantied for life. The rear left seat belt on my 00 accord is stuck and I called them to see if there is a way to fix it. They said to just bring it in and they will either fox or replace it. They said that because it is a safety item that it is warrantied for life.

Yes one some it is. At some point I think they changed their policy. Also you should thank them for taking care of the issue, "some" dealers might give you the run around beofore taking care of it.
My 89 LXi 2 dr has an issue, so far two dealers are giving me the "useful life" of the car has past and won't do anything....so I have to keep and eye on the junkyards

I believe that by law they are required to fix it. If you really want them to fix it and they are playing hard ball, just mention that you will file a complaint with your State Attorney General. If they call your bluff, file the complaint and see what happens.
They'll be calling you after about 2 weeks and asking you how they can resolve the matter. Some of these businesses are stupid enough to blow people off.

My main problem, the belts for the 3rd gen 2 doors...well they aren't found anymore. 4 door not problem.
Also that somewhere in 04~05 the laws did change. So if the car is newer then that the "lifetime" may not apply. If "someone" is reading this, see the warranty booklet for your car.
Also the fact that the older ones might not be available anymore means they come back with the "useful" life. Since Honda no longer carries the part and their lawyers have more money than I do....so I can spend ~$1K getting them to buy the car from me for "fair value"....BTW for a 89 LXi that is prob $500 ??????? Cheaper for them.

Warranty
Went to the dealer today and showed them the issue. One of my rear seat belts does nor retract. The tech checked it and he agreed the mechanism was defective. They ordered the part and will replace it for free next week when the part arrives.

I think by law they're required to have a certain length warranty on seatbelts, like xx years with no mileage limit. Honda went beyond that & said "lifetime". But sometime between 2003 & 2007 Honda seems to have gone back to the 10-year warranty (or whatever it is).
