Slow Acceleration/Shaking
Hey guys my 91 Accord (automatic transmission) started shaking about a month ago. Since the car is running and we are about to buy a house I decided to hold off on replacing the EGR valve, I say EGR valve because that is the answer I found in most of the similar blog posts. I did replace the fuel pump though and there was no noticeable improvement. But about a week ago I started to get slow accelerations out of stops when I was in D4. If I bring it down to 1 it accelerates much better but there seems to be some kind of clicking noise coming from under the car. I tried to pull a code from the diagnostic terminal using a paper clip but the check engine light stays ON when I turn the key to the on position. So I figured I'd start to look for help before something else goes wrong. Any advice is greatly appreciated.
It sounds like you've got a misfire of some sort - there're so many things that could cause misfires that it's pretty much impossible to give you any direction without knowing what DTCs are being thrown for the MIL. Is it a random multi-cylinder misfire or one from a specific cylinder? EGR will normally throw its own code, too, if its stuck.
And I'd ask about the normal tune up items (cap, rotor, plugs, inspect wires, ect).
Also note the the egr is "not in play" when the engine is cold - it does not go into closed loop until the engine is at op temp.
