Default Smog Failure

I am a complete idiot when it comes to cars. My 94 Accord failed it's smog here in California. The part it failed was noxious emissions. My mechanic also said the intake tube reservoir/resonance module was missing. My questions are A) What does this part do? B) How much will it cost to replace? And C) What maintenence steps might I take before trying to retake the smog check?

You have the stock black w/ ridges intake and filter box right? If so, the resonance chamber is there. If we can get a pic of a 5th gen engine bay up we can show you what he's talking about.

Noxious emissions tells me that he possibly meant NOx emissions, which could be a sign your catalytic converter is bad and needs replacing.

Excess NOX is frequently caused by no/low EGR function. It is a relatively easy fix to clean the EGR valve, intake manifold path, EGR manifold, and EGR intake ports. This allowed me to pass emissions test in TX, admittedly not as tough as CA. I have a pdf file describing fix. PM your email address if you want it.

good luck
