Default sometimes 93 accord won't start

My son has a 93 accord auto that sometimes won't start. It cranks but doesn't fire. hot or cold, weather seem to have anything to do with it. Only does it once in a while. A couple times it started but he said it was ideling so low he could hardly hear it. At that time the d4 light was blinking. That's the only code it throws and I don't think that has anything to do with the problem. Unfortunatly I havn't been around when it didn't start. I replaced the distributer and that didn't help. If you let the car sit and try it later it starts. I don't know what to do with it.

This is one where you will have to do some testing when it happens. If not we can guess at a bunch of things, which adds up to money.

Do you have a volt meter?

If/when this happens, take a look at the CEL when this is happens.

That's the main problem. I've never been around when it happens. He calls me and when I get there it starts. Yes I have a volt meter, what should I check? I didn't know if this may be a Honda issue that happens regular. Until this issue it's been the most reliable car we've ever owned.

If the D4 light started blinking, have him short the service connector and check for codes.

See the common diy thread on top of the gen tech help forum. There is a link for checking engine codes.

The d4 light was blinking when the car was running but not running right. It isn't currently throwing any codes. I wish it was that easy.

No, he hardly drives it. He uses my truck. You never know when it's gonna happen. He's tired of getting stuck. Keep me posted if you figure it out and I'll do the same.

Codes will store. So if the light (CEL or D4) has been on the codes will be there. Unless they have been cleared by pulling the bat cables or the ECU fuse.

Either way, check for them.
