Default Sooty plugs

1999 Accord, 2.3, Auto, after replacing the engine, which I put in new timing belt, water pump, seals and gaskets, using everything electronic from the old motor which run fine. (problem old engine was pushing engine oil into coolant) only new electronic part was the no knocks sensor.
Car started and idles, once gas is applied it either dies or revs to 2000RPM then pulses up & down then dies. Pull plugs and they are sooty black, put timing light on and it shows at idle about 10 degrees ATDC. tried to set timing without any luck. Have doubled checked timing belt alignment and everything is correct. No lights and scammer shows no codes. Compression 195-200, New Air Filter, spark looks okay. What else can I tell you, need help please.

You likely have a massive air leak somewhere. Check all vacuum lines, brake booster vacuum line, PCV, etc for leaks. It might be an intake manifold leak. W/ engine idling spray throttle body cleaner to look for leaks. Likely an engine installation issue that was overlooked.

Was the replacement engine an exact match to removed engine?

good luck

Sooty black makes me think a rich condition exists. TexasHonda has pointed you in the direction of vacuum leaks. Specifically, I would check the vacuum line to the fuel pressure regulator. The fuel pressure regulator is typically referenced to engine vacuum. If the vacuum line isn't hooked up to the fuel pressure regulator, the regulator will then be referenced to atmospheric pressure and that will make the engine run rich.

I found my issue. I had the MAP and TPS wire connections reversed.
Car runs like a million bucks now!
Thanks to all and Happy Holidays.
