Default Speed Sensor and Heater

Hi, i just bought my 95 honda accord a few weeks ago and my speedometer stopped working and so has the heater. Its super cold in the mornings and i really need to get the heater workings. For the speedometer, it works after like 10 mins of driving. I don't have the money to fix the car, but i am going to try and figure it out my self. Any ideas on why?

I'm gonna move this to General Tech where it should get the right kind of answers.

For the speedometer, try the cruise-control during those first few minutes while the speedometer isn't working. Let us know.

For the heater, go to the engine compartment & find the heater hoses going to the firewall. One has a valve. Have someone move the temperature control back & forth while you watch. Does the valve actually operate?

I tried my cruise control and it does work! it didn't make the speedometer work. I didn't have a chance to check out the heater. What else would it be for the speedometer?

The cruise control was not to make the speedometer work, it was to test to see if it was the speed sensor that is malfunctioning or the cluster itself.

Since the cruise control works its not likely its the speed sensor that is the issue. It is probably the speedomoter/odometer itself that is broken.

This seems to be a fairly common issue in the 94-97 accords as they get to higher miles(at least one or two people a week on here asking about it) and I had it happen to my 95 accord.

So whats the solution?

Buy a new cluster. They can be found on ebay in the $80 range and the seller can usually roll the odometer to match the miles that are on your car. It is a fairly straight forward job of swapping them out as well.

I checked out the heater and the valve works. What else will cause the heater not to work?

Let the car warm up. Make sure that the valve is open fully either by the **** inside of the car or mechanically opening it on the heater core.

Feel if both hoses are hot. If not, the heater core may be clogged.

Yeah, what he said...

If it's plugged, you might get away with disconnecting the hoses & flushing with a garden hose. Next thing is to try some chemical flush product. Last resort is a new heater core.
