Mine reads about 5 or 6 mps too fast according to the "YOUR SPEED" things. According to my auto professor, many companies did this as a means of getting the customer out of warranty just that much faster and get them in a new car, but ask any honda high end guy(or gal)and they will tell you its a sort of "buffer zone" to prevent drivers from getting tickets. of course, according to my professor.

 

boats are worse than that.... (not as important I know...) but they have something like a 10% error acceptable.... It seems fairly common to have a guage that is slightly off

 

I have heard the same thing, regarding the buffer zone. I am really not sure what to believe.

 

I seriously doubt that car companies purposely overstate milage....more likely has to due with tolerences of the parts involved....if anyone really cared other than these greedy bastards who are trying to make a quick $, there would be a much larger outcry from the public.....

This will open the door for other car manufacturers to get sues and I wonder why these people don't sue the american car companies?

just for kicks I ran 2 cars through KBB.com a 98 accord LX-V6 with 100K and 104K. guess what? the value of the car is Identical........repeated with my current car and milage and milage -4% and milage plus 1.5% again, the value was the same.......

 

Yes I notice my Honda 2003 may have shown increased mileages on when I feel I did not go that much distance. Any one experienced that or know it's fact?

 

My '14 Accord is right on as is my wife's CR-V. My '11 Fiesta read about 7% over, Ford told me it was in specs. The instrument cluster was later replaced for another problem, the new speedo was never more than 1 mph off. Anything more is just sloppy manufacturing. The irony was when I had my Scan Gauge 2 I could pull the speed, it was right on. Take your GPS with you when you go on the test drive.

 

As Corvair said, just compare your speedometer and odometer to a GPS unit. In the case of my 2001 V6 Accord EX, the speedometer is off by well under 1 mph and the odometer records 99.85 miles for every 100 miles driven.
