Sputtering and stalling when warmed up. [Confirmed Fix]
Hi, I'm new to the forums but not new to Honda's. I recently had my 96 LX Accord with a 2.2 non vtec stolen and I got it back without the cat, a destroyed steering column and a bad O2 sensor and a one of them missing. Anyway I welded a test pipe to replace the missing cat and everything ran fine for a while. Now whenever my car warms up it starts to sputter and eventually stalls, but when it's cold it run perfectly. Right now I'm leaning towards either the ICM (igniter) or the coil is there an easy way to tell which one it is or is there something entirely different I should be looking for?

Sometimes it will start right back up sometimes I'll have to wait a minute or two. I already checked the main relay and I'm pretty sure it's ok. My OBD2 scanner also happened to be in my car when it was stolen so I'm planning on going out and picking up a new one sometime this week.

Many stores will scan the codes for free......but with the car acting up it might be hard to get to one.
The 96 still has the old OBD-I service connector under/behind the glove box....if you jump that you could get the older code from the CEL - yes the older codes are not as good as the "II" but at least it is something.
When it won't start back up can you test for spark?

On your 96, the Crankshaft Position/Top Dead Center (CKP/TDC) sensor should be located just below the crankshaft, fastened to the oil pump housing. First, check that connector C124 terminals and wiring are okay (see pic. of C124 connector.

Thank you all for the help, I went ahead and replaced the TDC/CYP sensor. It was more work than I expected I broke my impact wrench trying to get the crankshaft pulley bolt out so I got a 50mm nut and welded up my own version of the tool Honda sells. It all runs great, now I'm going to relax and do my nails lol.
