Default SRS code diagnosis and reset

1997 Honda Accord LX, 4 Cyl, 2,2L. SRS light is on suddenly (no accident, no collision).

Drove to Auto Zone, they refused to read the code for SRS (only for check engine light).

My questions (really appreciate your help, thanks in advance):

1. How do I check the code? can I just short the diagnostic plug (blue, two prong, under the glove compartment)?

2. To reset the SRS, where is the MES (memory erase signal) jumper? I read here people said it is under the steering wheel. But I found one (yellow, two prong) near the inside fuse box (driver side fender), plugged into a dummy yellow plastic container attached to the inside of driver side fender. is that it?

yes, you can short the SCS connector. make sure the ignition is off for at least 10 seconds before you connect.

yes that is MES jumper.

Thanks. I just read the code, which is 5-2. searched the web the only info I could come up with is:

Possible cause: Internal failure of the SRS unit
Corrective action: SRS unit replacement

anyone has more insight? does SRS unit include the two airbags? or just the control? Thanks.

Clear the code first. The MES connector is the one you described. Good pic here: accordwagonclub(dot)com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=130&t=10668
