Default Starter question

My friend has an 09 Accord EXL 4cyl and he was told he has to put a starter from the dealer on it because if he puts an aftermarket one on it will throw a check engine light. Is this true? Sounds like bs to me, but I told him I would ask. Tried searching google and couldn't find anything.

I don't understand what you're saying. Wouldn't it be a yes or no answer to my question.

Thanks. That's what I'm thinking. I don't know much about the newer Accords.

Yes agree that OEM starter isn't necessary. Just wonder if there wasn't something more to the conversation with the dealer that about the check engine light/starter.

Rebuild the original starter it takes about 20 mins to do once it's out and you save a lot of money. There is no such issue of a starter throwing a code. It might not work as long as the OEM but definitely will not throw a code.

Use a Denso starter if you're replacing it. It might cost a little more, but quality usually does.
