Default Steering wheel clink noise

Just started to get an clink noise occasionally in the steering wheel/steering column area. Does not necessarily happen when turning the wheel sharply...sometimes happens under minor steering corrections when going straight. Not related to turn signal activation/deactivation. The wheel itself does not feel loose, and I have tried hitting the column with my hand in different areas to try to replicate the sound, but with no luck. The noise sounds like it is coming from just right under the horn pad. Any ideas?? Thanks for any advice given.

If you have srs....don't hit the air bags.

Does this "seem" to happen when the car has sat in cold temps? Or if it has sat in the sunlight with the windows closed ofr a period of time?

Poorman....for the past couple of days, temps here in the Pac NW have been moderate. Mid 40s at night, upper 50s to low 60s during the day.

Where I was going with the temps is that sometime the pieces/parts contract or expand causing the noise.

Is it like a "plastic" rubbing noise?

No, not plastic. Metallic, for sure. Kinda like if you tap a coin on an aluminum can would be the best way to describe it.

Ok, can you pull the wheel and take a look.....

IF you have air bags, follow the proper procedure. It isn't that hard to remove the steer wheel and that a "look".
