Default Stereo install - simple Q

I've looked up the DIY on this, but I've just got one question.

If you look here:
http://www.installdr.com/InstallDocs...PDF/466053.pdf
On page 5 it lists a bunch of steps. Are these there, in case you don't buy the aftermarket wire harness? In other words, are the things on pgs. 5 and 6 irrelevant, unless you want to splice your own wires? Or is there an extra bit of information I am overlooking?

Also, is taking the dash cover and clock off easy? I dont want to break anything...

Ok, so I got it installed. Now, I have a new problem though. After the installation, I noticed that my backlights to my clock and odometer don't work. How is it possible that this happened? And how do I fix this?

Check to see that you didn't blow a fuse during the install.

Diagnose everything that can be wrong BEFORE buying ANY parts for your car. There is no simple answer for all problems that seem alike.

It says on the pdf that this replacement should be done free of charge... How long do these recalls last for (assuming that my car falls under the VIN category)?

And what else could it be other than fuses? This has happened to me in the past, with the a/c strength dial backlight. That, however, fixed itself. Ideas?

EDIT:
I just realized that the recall only applies to LX Accord, not my EX. Wow, what a predicament.

Did you check the fuses? There are 3 panels on your car.
