Default STRANGE VIBRATION

I need some help. Wife's 99 EX has 110K on it. When driving it sometimes get a heavy vibration coming from the front end. It does not do it all the time or everyday, but when it does, it is annoying. Someone advised that it could need a tune-up and that should fix the problem. Although a tune up is well past due, could this solve my problem? Has anyone else had this problem? It doesn't depend on the speed when it happens either

yea tune up could be the problem. we really need somemore info though. is it a 4 or 6. does the vibration only happen when you accelerate? when turning. listen to the exhaust do you hear any missing? check out the motor and transmission mounts do they look broken? pull the plugs and take a picture of them for us. check the resistence of the spark plug wires. are there any check engine lights on? if there are take it to autozone or checker/shucks/kragen and get the code number and post it here for us.

THANKS!!

I will try to get some pics tonight. To answer one of your questions, it happens only when accelerating. Can you advise where I may find the motor/transmission mounts? Is there anything I need to look for?

i think you may have already found the problem then. its very likely to be a inside cv joint. but there are motor mounts at each corner of the motor, one on the front, one on the back, and one on each side.

lightshow, he should be able to turn in a tight circle and listen for a clicking noise to test that CV shouldn't he?

Nope, inner joints are a little more difficult to diagnose.

Clicking when turning tightly is for outboard CV joints. The inboard ones can wobble a bit under acceleration. A good test is to see whether the vibration only happens while accelerating.

You could grab the valve cover & try to shake the engine; while watching & listening. A bad engine mount will allow too much motion & maybe it'll make klunking noises. (The trick is knowing how much motion is 'normal'.)
