Hi Michael,
I think you have been treated harsly! Was the rejection of the claim from the dealer or Honda UK? If it is the latter, write to them directly and challenge them. If it is the dealer, go to another dealer for a second opinion.

I didn't have a problem with the dealer in St Albans, the service manager was aware of the problem withe diesels. They didn't check the manifold, booked the car in for a new manifold kit.

Hope you get it sorted.

Hi Sammohung,
I had the new exhaust manifold fitted yesterday, cost me £600,I took a photo of the new one ! its made of cast iron ie one piece,I have kept the old faulty one which is two piece welded contraption /so many welds on it no wonder they fail.
Now I have the evidence,I intend to sue the dealer in the small claims court under the Sale of goods act, under the SOGA goods should last 6 years or a reasonable time for that part, if it does not then it can be deemed to be an inherent fault.
My last job I worked for the AA as a patrol for 27 years and it was very rare to find a cracked manifold, and even rarer to find any fault on a Honda, thats what made me buy one. Honda say that when this fault occurs you will hear the exhaust blowing, well I didn't,and it seems the first most people are aware of the fault is when your breathing in carbon monoxide, maybe these Accord icdti should come with a health warning like they have on *** packets.

Best of luck with the pursuuit through the small claims court. Keep us posted on the progress.

I have been told by other Honda owners, Honda UK were accepting liability if the cars were under 7 years old or 125,000 miles, which ever came first.

Had the same problem with my 2005 Accord. Must have spent 500 pounds trying to solve this problem . Only my mechanic was talking to someone who knew the solution, manifold, and Honda wrre replacing them, did I get it fixed. Thank God.

Default Exhaust fumes in car.

Big thanks to the people on this forum.

I have a 55 plate Accord diesel 2.2i with 93000 miles on the clock. I started getting exhaust fumes in the cabin about a month ago and after looking on this forum found out about the manifold fault Honda were aware of. Took the car to Springfield Honda in Scotswood Newcastle upon tyne who gave the car the once over agreed it was the manifold ordered a new one then and there and within a week the car was fixed free of charge. So thanks forum and Thanks Honda.
