Default Tach jumps around, car stutters

Okay, here's my problem, when i really get on it, i.e. getting on the highway, my tach jumps around past 3 or 4k rpms or so, and the car stutters and the exhaust pops a bit, any ideas? car runs fine otherwise, no startup problems, all ignition parts are new except for the distributor itself and the ignitor

Well, the tachometer signal comes from the ignitor (inside the distributor). So that might be the problem. I think there's a thread in the DIY section about diagnosing a bad coil vs. bad ignitor.

I did not realize the ignitor was inside the distributor, thank you for that, my coil is brand new so I highly doubt it's that, I've already ordered a new distributor, if that doesn't fix it I'll repost on here, thanks man, I appreciate it

Sounds like you might have gotten away with a new ignitor (instead of a whole new distributor). Still, thanks for telling us the final fix.
