Default Tach quit working

The tach on my daughter's 92 Accord LX 5 speed with 176k miles quit working today. I tried the search function on this board, but couldn't come up with anything. Is this a common problem? Is there a usual fix? I appreciate any help you can give me.

Thanks,
Dale

Mine did the same thing 2 weeks ago and I just tapped on the cluster and it came back on. It has been working ever since.

Tach can quit when there's an ignition problem (coil or ignitor). It's not a common problem. If car is running fine, I agree w/ poolman, probably a bad instrument panel circuit or rpm gauge assy. If this is confirmed, then easiest fix is probably a used instrument panel. You'll need to file an mileage adjustment statement w/ your DMV. The 94-97 manual can be downloaded from Onlink Manuals DIY procedure.

good luck

The tach signal is generated by the ignition control module. If hitting the gauge cluster doesn't solve the problem, then I would check the ICM connections inside of the distributor (has four wires going to it).
