i have a 97 honda accord that i need help with the tail lights. when i turn my blinkers on they blink then when i mash the brakes they stop blinking but stay lit up, i looked at the tail lights and the drivers side has a little box plugged in to the harness, if i unplug it the blinkers will work right but my brake lights wont come on??? does anyone know what the deal is or have a wiring diagram for the tail lights?? any help would be appreciated thanks.

 

Is the black box in the trunk?

If you go to the common DIY thread on top of the gen tech help forum, you can open a link to the online shop manual thread. The hondatech link has a 94 shop manual that you can download with the wiring diagrams which will be almost identical to your 97 accord.

Under the electrical section there is a wire harness and ground locations. I would suggest unbolting and cleaning the grounds. I would use a small wire brush to clean the bolt and the eyelet (or the hole in the ground bracket). Definitely clean G201 and G301 on the front bumper and G751 and G501 in the trunk.

I would probably clean all grounds that are easily accessible as shown in that shop manual, because strange electrical problems can be attributed to poor ground connections.
