TCM Removal
Looks like in 1996 the ECM and TCM are in a combined module. Same location under the passenger foot well carpet. Pull back carpet, remove 4 bolts, remove electrical connections and remove module and cover. Separate ECM from cover.

4 bolts is all? hmm ok thanks a lot. but hey let me ask you a quick question. My combination fuse/back up light keeps blowing every time I shift the car to reverse. I checked all the cables in the back and all seem ok. every thing else works. So can it be a a bad cable going to the tcm which ive read is what turns on the lights.
ECM is not the problem. This circuit has no connection to the ECM.
Things to check:
1) AT Gear Position Switch (in the console). It may be shorted to ground, or someone pinched the wiring during console removal/installation.
2) Trailer Light Connection in trunk. Even if no trailer, it might be shorted to ground
3) Backup Light receptacle (short to ground in wiring or receptacle).
Somewhere there is a short to ground. You can pull the No 1 fuse in under dash fuse box and check circuit. It should be open. If it shows a short to ground (almost certain), you must find the short as suggested above.
good luck

I pretty much checked all of those except the gear position switch which i will check tomorrow. but for some reason when the fuse blows I cant get out of park... so most likely some thing is messed up inside there.
Thanks!
Thanks!
