you need to make sure that both fans work when engine gets warm WITHOUT putting the a/c on ..

might take several minutes,, make sure to monitor the needle on the gauge,,

lower hose should begin to feel hot ( t-stat opening ) when needle is about or slightly above 1/4 at the temp gauge

Both fans should come on when needle is at around 1/2 \ at temp gauge

if needle is at 1/2 on the gauge and lower hose is NOT hot ,, t-stat is sticking closed , needs replacing ..

1 gallon mix 50-50 should do the job

chk this out..

Sounds to me like you've got it! Since you had a hot upper hose at one point and a cold lower hose you may still have a sticky thermostat so if your issues come back then keep in mind that it may need replacing...

How about the collapsed radiator hose?

If the cap is OK, what about a clogged hose leading to the overflow reservoir?
