Default Is there an aftermarket replacement for Honda Accord Electric Antenna?

I've got a 94 Accord EX with the electric antenna that goes up and down when you turn the radio on/off. This morning, the antenna jammed up and broke as it was extending. Just old I guess. Of course, now it doesn't go up and down anymore. I know I can buy a new mast and feed it into the base and the motor will catch it and all will be well. But that option from Honda is $50+.

What I'd rather do is take the electric antenna out all together and either replace it with a small whip antenna, or just a regular pull up/push down antenna. Yeah, I know I can start driving around town and looking at Autozone and Wal-mart and Pep Boys, etc., but before I start burning gas, I'd rather ask and see if anyone out there has done this before, and what kind of antenna worked for you.

So that's my question...has anyone out there who owns a Honda Accord replaced the electric antenna with just a regular old manual antenna? And if so, what kind did you get and where did you get it?

I really appreciate it!!

Pretty sure it's a dealer only part. Do you really need it? Do you really listen to the radio? You could get a 96-97 rear window with the antenna built in or you could slap a doo-hickey on top of your car like I did. Mine works great.

Thanks for the tips. The antenna mast with nylon chain cable (all I really need), is indeed available at the dealer ($60). It's also available on eBay all day long for anywhere between $10-$20. However, I was looking for some sort of aftermarket replacement antenna that I could just pull up and down myself. And I wanted it done by this weekend. And I found one...right on the Honda itself.

What I did was disassemble the electric antenna housing and remove the gear that attaches the antenna to the electric motor. Then I disconnected the power to the motor and Wala! Now we've got an antenna that I can pull up and push down with my hand. No electricity necessary. Total cost--->$0. Now that's a solution I can live with.

I had a 92 accord that did the same thing. That antenna was the dumbest idea ever. The motor died on mine, then the antenna eventually broke. I replaced it with an auto zone one if I recall.

Glad you found a good fix.

Yeah they all break. Mine broke so I had it removed, shaved over and installed lil stubby on my roof instead.
