I had the same problem, after taking off the two bolts holding the handle it still wouldn't come off and that's because there is a horseshoe clip hidden between the metal bracket and the exterior handle. At the bottom of the lockset there is an opening stick a small screwdriver under there and pry down and the clip comes out and so does the handle. Anyone can change a handle. Don't give up!
