I'm new here, but I figured who better to help me than a bunch of Honda Accord enthusiasts.

I have a 1999 Honda Accord Coupe EX-V6 AT (from Vancouver-Canada). It is a rebuild (body work only).

Current: 100800 kilometers / 63000 miles

Honda Canada recommends that I replace the timing belt at 7yrs/105k miles (168k KM).. or 60k miles (100k KM) in -20 Celcius (Vancouver is generally -10 Celcius in the winter at most).

Basically, is it 60000miles or 100000miles?

Should I replace it now, or is it safe to wait till the Fall?

 

I could not tell you if it is safe to wait,, i would have to see the condition of the belt , so i would say to visually chk it to see if it can wait or not..
make sure to replace the water pump and the hydraulic t-belt tensioner as well and outer belts if they look iffy

 

If we told you to wait and the belt broke we would be doing you a disservice. I would go by what the manual and your local Honda dealer recommend. If I understand you post, you are asking if you have to go by the two recommendation miles in rough conditions vs general conditions. That is a local dealership question. I am in Michigan and fall under the more stringent recommendations.

 

Either way, it's already been more than 7 years.

 

i am at 10 years and 120 plus thousand miles. i have not changed the timing belt. every place wants to charge 600-1200 to do this.

it s a gamble for me i guess. i want to trade my car in in the next 1 year or so

at this point the new accord looks great and i have heard prices that are the same as what i paid 10 years ago!

it is hard to spend 1000 with that on the table.

 

driving conditions dictate the change time

lots of short trips = sooner

lots of highway easy cruizing miles = later

not changing the belt and it snaps = ur're screwed over

my acura dealer told me that you can easily go 10 years on a belt and that is honda's newer recommendation he also stated you could realistically go 120K miles but I am not gonna test that out (my guess is that Honda routinely tests old parts to get a measure of their durability in real world conditions thus giving update specs) my old 94 honda was 7 years or 90K and the replacement belt was 105K or 10 years

 

Check the base of the teeth for cracking, the belts don't actually break in two.

This belt had 110k miles.
