Default timing belt

I need a good DIY info on how to replace my timing belt of my '96 accord EX with 189,000 miles on it.It's a 4 cylinder Vtec. I have a manual for it but i need the "tricks and tips" of anyone that have done it themselves, you know those things that are not mentioned in the manual book "the oh,by the way stuff". Thanks.

my best answer would be invest in a haynes repair manual, it has a complete teardown of the car. its what i used to redo the lights in my car. Its a priceless tool in auto repair.

You said you already had a repair book, right?

Getting the crank pulley off is always tough. A good air impact wrench is good. It IS a right-hand (normal) thread. I've taken mine to a nearby garage so they can loosen it, then sorta tighten it for a SHORT drive home.

Make sure you find AND UNDERSTAND the crank & cam & balance shaft timing marks BEFORE you take off the old belts.

Consider replacing the water pump & the tensioner pulleys while you're in there. Fair chance they won't last another 90k miles until the next belt change. You don't have to replace them, but just so you understand the choice.

This link is from a prelude T-belt, the lower end is the same as yours, this might give you a clue or two

also, since you are right there put a NEW water pump on the car and MAKE SURE that you got the retainer kit installed for the balance shaft seal. Also, the new t-belts are supposidly good for 105K versus the previous 90K (straight from Honda dealer service tech's mouth)
