Trans Fluid Change

99 Accord coupe 4cyl, w/ automatic tranny slipping.

I read you guys entire posting and responses; very informative... I'm completely new to owning a automatic car. Since i learned how to drive & recieved my DL's, I've been driving 5-speeds. I've learned how to service 5-speed, now having a automatic, how do I go about servicing the tranny. Mine is slipping, yesturday, Sat. Feb. 28, I went out and purchased Valoline Highmilelage tranny fluid & Lucas Tranny fuild. I haven't drained & refilled the tranny; I want to purchase and replace the filter(s). I see no purpose in replacing the fluids and running it through old\worn\dirty filters. When I replace my motor-oil, I replace the filter; shouldn't automatic transmission maintenance be the same way....

Default 90 accord

I have a 90 accord that I have drained trans ,just wondering is it 3 & 1/2 qts also

The feeling I get, and I'm no expert, is that things change over the years on these Accords. I have an 03 4 cyl EXL, which was the first year of a major design change, and it is a totally different car than the 02. So, I'm sure yours is very different.

For some reason, after some research, I found this filter sitting on top of the trans. case, is one of the cooling lines, and I haven't found anyone that knew it was there! I find that interesting. Now I know it's there, I can change it now and then.

Question Transmission 3x method - question about it...

When you say, drain & refill 3 times, are you guess sugguesting all 3 times without driving the car; simply changing the fluids and let in run where it's sitting and doing the process all over again, or should I drive it so that the tranny is able to shift through all the gears and then repeat the process???? Between each drain & refill, should I and others going dealing with this problem attempt to drive the car, and if so, how far\long, mieage wise???

Yes, drive the car. The torque converter doesn't drain, so you can only drain about 1/3 or 1/2 of the total fluid.

You can certainly drive around for a few days in-between, if that's convenient.

It's a game of dilution. There are about six quarts in there, you change three and now have 50% new fluid. Drive it around for as long as you please, change it again, another 50% and now MAYBE you have 75% new fluid in there, theoretically. You can lose sleep doing the math.

You mentioned "slipping". This may not be the cure, but my train of thought is always to try the cheap stuff first. $8.50 a quart at a Honda dealer.... and no, no one recommends any other kind of transmission fluid. Good luck!

I also have the 2003 4 cyl. I see that there is a filter? What is the part number and how hard is it to change?

to shed light on the inline trans filter........it comes as a Kit with the REMAN transmissions.

Talking about #4? Majestic has it for less than $15. Maybe $20 at your dealer??
Looks like it's just a bracket & a couple hose clamps.
