on my 96 accord,, it is making horrible whining sound in park, shift to drivr it gets better, it does slip in d4 it will drive in d3 but the noise is still there,, anyideas?? it is a 96 accord 4cyl vtec,, what yrs swap over? was told only 96 & 97 only 4cyl is only swap as well,, thanks

 

If it is slipping and you have strange noises - fluid level is fine, well it very well could be on the way out.

To keep things simple - a trans from 94-97 4 cyl will work fine

 

update..put some lucas trans fix in it,,,now it has no 3rd gear??

You might want to try a drain/refill using Honda ATF, or Dextron 2 ATF. It might we worth few drain/refills to swap out the old fluid?

You can search car-part.com for compatible transmissions. It will search junkyards by price or distance. I would think that all 94-97 ATs from a 4 cylinder will work, but the 96/ 97 may only share the same exchange number. You may find a cheap 96/97 in your area.

 

was told the torque converter has to be 96/97 only the trans itself 94/97 willl work ,,can anyone confirm this,, thanks,,i did find a used trans for 350 dollars,, how hard is it to swap the transmission? i am fairly handy with the wrenches,,thanks in advance

 

Not a bad job. Buy a new torque converter o-ring.

I've never heard of a problem using a 94-95 torque converter on a 96-97. In fact, when I was looking for a used trans I read that even a 4th gen trans would swap into a 5th gen after swapping a trans mount stud.

update,,,,i found a used transmission at my pick and pull,,they were having a 1/2 price sale,, so i got it for 75 dollars,,am currently swapping it out,,not been fun so far,,
