Hello, I drive a 2004 Honda Accord V6 I was reading through the manual looking at transmission section. I know your supposed to push the release button before putting it into P,R,N,D etc... but I noticed that I can push the shift lever into P,R,N,D without pushing the release button which seems really odd, seems to me it should lock and not allow me to do that. My shift lever **** is also loose dunno if thats whats causing it.

I would take out the center console and take a look at the area near the shift lever.

Maybe the push button mechanism is simply stuck or there are some bolts loose. I don't know of a source for an 04 accord shop manual, so maybe a Haynes manual will have some information that will help you.

 

also look near where the keyhole is when th console is in place. the release may be hung up.
