Default Transmission leak

1997 Accord ex automatic

I have a transmission leak, my dad said its due too the cv joints going out
and that I need a new seal. I have no idea the cost of cv joint or a transmission seal. or if the cv joints even hav a effect.
Where would be a good place to find these parts? and what do they usually go for?

I bought my cv joints at O'Reilly auto parts for about $70 each. That price was for new CV joints. The rebuilt ones from autozone may or may not last long.

The seal would be something that you can get at a honda dealership for <$30.

Do you know if or when the CV joints were replaced last. Usually when they go bad you will hear a clicking sound when turning left or right from a stop.

I recently replaced both CV joints on my 97 Accord. Bought EMPI axles online from parts geek .com. I think they were about 85.00 each. I agree with PA honda and would not purchase the less quality joints from your local auto parts store.

If the joints are ok, you might want to just replace the seal that is leaking. The Honda dealer had seals for my car and they were about 15.00 each.

I am glad I did the job myself, really not that difficult if you have the tools/mechanical knowledge.

Good luck.

Whoa, wait a minute before you go out and buy axles.....
You say the trans fluid is leaking at the inner CV joint?
This sounds to me like the case seal at the differential needs to be replaced.
Putting a new axle into the bad seal won't solve the problem.

Also to be sure get under the vehicle, with jack/stands in mind always safety first and take a look to determine exact location of leakage. You may only have to replace seals....cv joint......one seal and cv joint.....etc....

Find out what you got goin on under there.
