Default Transmission linkage problem

Honda Accord 2005 Manual Transmission 2.2L

My car would not go into reverse the other day. I tracked it down to faulty linkage near the transmission. I was able to temporarily fix the problem by using some thread and electrical tape as a spacer. With the "spacer' the linkage is held in place properly and the car shifts as it should. Electrical tape is not a permanent solution and will likely fail soon. I bought some split collars to try and fix the problem but I was wondering if anyone had a better idea for a spacer.

Of course the other option is to spend $190 at the dealer or $117 at Honda Parts Now (an online store).

I don't really want to spend the money if I can permanently and safely fix it another way.

I drew arrows on the images to the effected areas.
