I picked up my 17Yr old's sons first car yesterday its a
Four door 1998 Accord EX with the 2.3L 150Hp 4 Cyl and Automatic transmission.
I test drove the car twice before I bought it and drove it home. I bought it from a private seller. It was a surprise form him.
When we got it home and he went to take it for his first drive. when pulling out of the driveway he put it in reverse and the engine rev'd like it was in neutral, Put it back in park, then back in reverse and it moved. This happened several times throughout the day. It seems like the transmission is slipping.
What things can I check ?
Are there any known problems with the transmission in the 1998 Accord?
Does anyone know what the most likely cause of the problem is?
Does anyone know how much it would take to get fixed if I have to take it to a shop for the slipping?
I spent most of my cash to buy the car for him.
Thanks Al

hey there. yeah those honda transmissions are prone for that, especially if it has a lot of Miles/KM. my suggestion is to buy an additive such as lucas transmission fix or anything eles with a good name behind it. i would do that before i would take it to a shop. and when you put the additive in make sure you take out the same fluid amount you put in. good luck and happy driving!
