Default Transmission?? or something else??

Hello,
I have a question regarding a Civic, I hope that it is okay. I was test driving a 2004 Honda Civic today, and the car seemed fine. However, when I start the car, and shift into D, the auto transmission car should begin to move if the road is flat, unless the brakes are applied or the handbrake is on. But this car would not move. Also, it needed a little more gas to start moving...... as if there was some kind of drag. Is this a transmission issue that I should be wary about or is this something else?
What are the signs of a transmission going south in an automatic transmission car? This car had only 86K miles on it, so I don't know if the transmission would go bad that early on in a Civic.

Thanks

Some cars simply have less "creep" than others. Older Hondas (at least in my experience) exhibit a fair amount of creep. My mom's 2004 Odyssey doesn't have near as much creep, so I'm not really sure if it's an intentional design or a infirmity with the Civic. I wouldn't think it would be the transmission. Does it exhibit this same drag when you take your foot off the accelerator and coast? That could help narrow it down.
Best of luck!

I don't remember exactly, but I do not think the drag existed (or I may not have felt it as much) when I took the foot off the accelerator while the car is moving. It is good to know that this "creep" is a design thing, and so its absence may not be an indicative of any problem... specially with the transmission.
Thank you for the reply.

Try this...
Slow down to something like a walking speed or less. Shift to neutral & coast. That's the easiest way to feel if the brakes are dragging.

Or try going up a slight hill. stop and let your foot of brake while in drive. If it rolls backward your brakes are not dragging. Trans probalbly is ok. check the fluid for dicoloration. Should be nice and honda ZR-1 red

Hey. I just had a thought. ( miracle ) Is this transmission a CVT ( constantly variable trans.) Those dont shift gears and do not creep.
