Trunk Light will Not Burn Help??

Greetings all!! my first post and glad to be with all you Honda junkies... My problem is the trunk light will not burn at all. I have a 1990 Accord LX. I have changed the bulb and checked the fuses all good.... I removed the socket from the trunk and noticed a small diode or resistor (Black with silver writing) in the socket not sure why they need that on a trunk light. Anyway, I measured the voltage on the wires coming out of the trunk to the socket and get 12 volts but when I hook the bulb across the hot wire to ground all I hear is a clicking inside the driver side rear panel somewhere. (Like a relay is tripping) ALso can anyone tell me where the trunk light on and off actuater switch is located in the lid?
I appreciate any help.. It always seems like the little things that annoy us...... I'm about ready to go buy a light and switch and run a hot wire back there anyway... [&o][

Not sure where switch is on a '90 but on my '87 LX the switch is in the trunk latch, (when you shut the trunk lid - the latch catches on the U shaped bar that holds the trunk lid shut).
Did you install a new bulb into the socket or touch the hot wire to one end of the bulb and a grd wire to the other side?
If in the socket - some sockets have insulators for the wires and if one is defective it could short when the bulb is plugged in?
