Default update- now look at a 2000 accord se...

I just wanted to ask for any suggestions that I should check out on the car? I went to look at it yesterday and did a test drives here are my analysis of it...

-under the hood, the paint and everything looks all natural with nothing totally brand new which can hint an accident
-the body is in great condition, so is the interior
-engine looks pretty good, except for the minor rust and mold

parts I didn't like/nervous about the car...

-at certain points when I step on the pedal or slow down, the acceleration seems to make a quick jerk randomly... as if the engine was dying out on me or clogging... i am thinking it's the transmission going back, or it was already bad and they fixed it... i dunno it didn't happen a lot... maybe i was just being paranoid
-the struts and shocks were bad, and all the bumpy rounds were killing me... i think they all need to be changed... (any suggestion where to buy them to save money? ) because if i take it to the dealer it'll cost me like 900...

thanks,
Korr

btw, the asking price was 5,900, i'm thinking of buying it around under 5,000... is this okay?

Automatic tranny? We nicknamed those autotragic because they tend to die young. It may just need a fluid change...

Adjustable dampening shocks and struts from Koni would only be $500 + labor and they are much better than OE.

IMO, $5900 is a good deal. I paid $4700 for mine with 169k on the clock a few months ago.

I'd keep looking until you find one in good shape. 6th gen's are very plentiful and can be had for that price in almost showroom shape.

i'm not really a car guy... 500 sounds like a lot... anything under 300 that is good?

i guess i'd still look around....

Koni's are the best ..... within a reasonable price. You could probably pull tokicos for around 300. Accords older than 98 or newer than 03 are ok in auto form. The 6th gen had the problem and spilled into the first year or so of the 7th gen.

I agree with Aaron, my $4700 was sky high for the condition of my 6th gen, but I was in a pickle for transportation. Recently, over at 6GA a member bought the same car as me for the same price.... with 100,000 less miles *tear*

thanks... now should i be looking for a '97 and lower models? my price range is under 5,500... should I completely avoid the 6th generations? the 5th gen. are getting older now.. is that going to affect it's reliability? i'm just looking for a commute car without much problems....
