Default Valve cover gasket

Just changed the spark plugs in my97 2.2 liter Accord. Surprised at how much oil was in the plug holes. Read a past post, about seals and valve cover gasket so going to replace mine soon.

Bought a kit at Autozone, includes a rubber gasket/seals/grommets.

When installing the new kit, do you need to put any rtv/sealer on the gasket to keep it in place on the valve cover. Also should you torque the cover bolts or just snug them.

Thanks and hope this post works!

Little bit of HondaBond in corners of cam caps.

Dealer, or Permatex Ultra Grey is a GOOD substitute.

Dont overtighten & break the bolts. The gasket is trapped in a groove. Once the VC metal touches the head metal, any further tightening isnt going to improve the seal.

I was the one who just replaced it. We used some High Temp RTV (the red kind) when we replaced it. As for the tightening it, it will only allow you to tighten it so much because of the rubber/metal pieces below the nut. Good Luck!

Pay attention to the direction which the upper seals are installed. At least on the EX, you might be tempted to install them upside down.

Just got the job done, no problems and really not to bad to do.

However I was concerned about some black scale/deposits/sludge on the valve bolts and on top the head grooves mainly near the front side. Took a shop vac and sucked most out.

Not sure if I can do anything more about the buildup or even if it is an issue.

Getting rid of sludge is difficult. Go to Bobistheoilguy.com and read all about fighting sludge.
