Cool Weird Transmission Incident

I have a 1992 Honda Accord EX. The other day, the car had been sitting for two days in hot weather, I tried to start my car and it wouldn't turn over the first time. I tried it again and it started, but when I drove the car it wouldn't get out of first gear no matter how hard I step on the gas. Then the "D4" shift light started flashing. I pulled the car off to the side of the road and restarted it. The car started right up and the transmission was working normally. What caused that?

P.S. I have had some electronical gremlins such as the brake light dummy switch coming on periodically, but the brake lights work fine, the horn doesnt work sometime and the cigarette lighter not working most of the time. I have been told these problems are caused by a bad ICU.

Please help...I dont want to caught on the highway in first gear only.

Well if the light was flashing....I'd start with trying to get the codes. There is a Common DIY Threads at the top of this forum that will help.

Then I'd be sure to clean the ground on the t-stat housing.

If you are ever caught out and your car is stuck in 1st, try manually shifting from one and clicking up as necessary. You just have to start over each time you stop, but you won't be stranded.

Default blinking D4 light

I am having the same problem with my '93 accord. When the light is blinking, the car turns over, but will not start. It feels like it isn't getting any fuel. Like you, when it does start and light is still blinking, it feels like the trans is slipping.I have done what the other poster said about manualy shifting, and it worked fine.
Then if you let the car sit, the light stops blinking, and everything is back to normal.
Any help would be appreciated!

Racerdon, I asked another member who had the same problem and fixed it. He responded to me saying....

"Hope this help, this issue was taken care off along time ago. Im still runing strong too. I swap out TCU, did a complete tranny fluid flush ( U can utube ) tested and swap out my clutch cylinder.
You may wanna check out
Cb7tunner.com
I found alot good write up there. Actually, thats were I got the info. just use the search bar for the d4 limp mode on the tranny. U might find my write up also and lots more."

Let me know how this worked for you. Thanks
