Default What Model Engine do I have in a 2000 Accord EX...?

I recently picked up a used 2000 Accord EX with the 4cyl 2.3L motor for my daughter.

When looking up parts I see there are 3 engine choices:

4cyl - 2.3L F/inj. (16V) SOHC F23A1 V-Tec
4cyl - 2.3L F/inj. (16V) SOHC F23A4 V-Tec
4cyl - 2.3L F/inj. (16V) SOHC F23A5 V-Tec

How do I know which model engine I have?

Thanks!

EX can be F23A1 or F23A4.

The ULEVs had F23A4 engines, while the non-ULEV had F23A1 engines.

Does the engine valve cover says ULEV? Even if it does, there is always the remote possibility someone did a partial swap where it was a F23A1 engine block with just a ULEV valve cover (that happened on this forum before).

You can also enter the car''s VIN on sites like Bernardi Honda Parts to get some info.

If I recall correctly, the ULEV (or LEV) sticker is attached to a window on the left side rear door.

Serial # pad is machined into the front side of the engine block, about mid-elevation, right where the engine & transmission split from each other. Top line is the engine (F23A1) second line is the block serial number.

With any 14-year-old car you have to think about a previous owner swapping engines.

The exhaust manifolds look quite different from each other. Take a photo & post it?

ps... the F23A5 engine is non-VTEC and comes in the Accord DX model.

Thanks for the replies guys. No sticker in any window that means anything related to the engine from what I can tell. Couldn't find anything machined into the block. Here's some photos... no idea if it's the original engine or not, 155,000 miles. Thanks!

Your daughter's car probably a F23A1, non-ULEV.

This is what a ULEV normally looks like. The engine code is at the area indicated.

Great information and photo. Thanks redbull! It does look a little different than your photo so like you said, most likely a F23A1. I take another look for the engine code tomorrow. Thank you!

It is F23A1.
The exhaust manifold & A/F sensor is clearly not F23A4 in your photo (you see the difference from Redbull's photo).
And I can't find the F23A5 (non-VTEC) for 2000. I wonder if that engine was discontinued after 1999???
